Hampton-Dumont Key Club News

The Hampton-Dumont High School Key Club received a first place Single Service Award-Bronze Division for their “Get Out of Advisory” food drive. The certificate was awarded at the 51st Annual Nebraska-Iowa Key Club District Convention held March 26-28 at the West Des Moines Marriot. High school students are divided into advisories that meet for 20 minutes at the end of each day. For a week, Key Club members encouraged advisories in a competition to see who could earn the most points in a food drive with different food items being worth different points. At week’s end, enough food and non-perishable items were collected to completely fill a pickup bed and the backseat of that pickup. Although the project was simple in nature, the impact was HUGE and far-reaching. Nola Johnson, director of the local food pantry, was overwhelmed with the response. “I was flabbergasted when the truck pulled up and all that food came out. This donation comes at a wonderful time, and it is so appreciated. I just can’t get over how much food the high school students donated. Thank you to the high school and to Key Club for making this happen,” stated Johnson. Accepting the certificate from 2009-10 NE-IA Key Club Governor Matt Johnson are HD Key Club members Jodi Varrelman, Tanner Brolsma, and Jerod Raney.
Also at the District Convention, Tanner Brolsma was elected one of the Lieutenant Governors for this next year. Tanner will be a member of the 2010-2011 NE-IA Key Club District Board of Directors representing Area VII including Ames, Roland Story, Boone, Nevada, Marshalltown, and Hampton. It is requested that each club allocate $5 per member for the International and District Foundations. Your generosity and timely payment is greatly appreciated!!
